Lafayette Central Catholic (15-4) defeated 3A #2 South Bend St. Joseph 12-8 in the opening game of the Catholic Classic. The Knights trailed 8-2 in the fourth before rallying for a 12-8 win. Alex Schummer threw 3 2/3 innings allowing no runs and striking out four Huskies to pick up the win. Lucas Gerkey had three hits and scored three times to lead the offense. Jackson Cain, D.J. Gilkey and Brennan VanKirk each drove in a pair of runs.
