Lafayette, Ind. - The Central Catholic JV basketball team (4-3) opened 2025 with a dominant victory over Rensselaer on Saturday night. The Knights came out gunning, outscoring the Bombers 21-6 in the first quarter. Rensselaer tried to use the free throw line to keep it close in the second quarter. The Knights committed 13 first half fouls. However, the Knights took care of the ball and shot well from the field and led 35-16 at the half. The second half saw the Knights continue to shoot the ball well and a more disciplined effort on the defensive end. Central Catholic hit a season-high eight three-point shots led by Jackson Newkirk and Calvin Reisman with three apiece. Overall, the Knights shot 45% from the field for the game. Twelve of 14 Knights scored, led by Newkirk with a career high 14 points. Reisman and Tommy Brown each added nine points. Brown also led the way with seven rebounds. The Knights will be back in action on Tuesday as they travel to Russiaville to face Western.
