Lady Knights Come Up Short in Home Opener

Lafayette Central Catholic Varsity Knights had trouble keeping up with Fountain Central Varsity Mustangs in a 19-5 loss on Thursday. Fountain Central Varsity Mustangs got on the board in the top of the first inning after Jones grounded out, scoring one run, Elkins tripled, scoring two runs, Kiger drew a walk, scoring one run, Brooker singled, scoring two runs, and Weber doubled, scoring one run. Fountain Central Varsity Mustangs added one run in the second. Elkins grounded into a fielder's choice, making the score 8-0. A wild pitch extended the Fountain Central Varsity Mustangs lead to 9-0 in the top of the third inning. Fountain Central Varsity Mustangs scored eight runs on two hits in the top of the fifth inning. Massey tripled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, Lee induced Kiger to hit into a fielder's choice, but two runs scored, an error scored two runs, and Bixler doubled, scoring two runs. Bixler earned the win for Fountain Central Varsity Mustangs. The hurler surrendered five hits and five runs (zero earned) over four and two-thirds innings, striking out none and walking two. McCammon took the loss for Lafayette Central Catholic Varsity Knights. The righty went four and one-third innings, surrendering 16 runs (13 earned) on 16 hits, striking out two and walking five. Buczkowski, Boutelle, Lee, and Zehring each drove in one run for Lafayette Central Catholic Varsity Knights. Lee went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Lafayette Central Catholic Varsity Knights in hits. Fountain Central Varsity Mustangs tallied 17 hits in the game. Weber and Massey each collected four hits for Fountain Central Varsity Mustangs. Elkins led Fountain Central Varsity Mustangs with four runs batted in. The outfielder went 2-for-4 on the day. Brooker, Stonebraker, and Bixler each collected multiple hits for Fountain Central Varsity Mustangs. Fountain Central Varsity Mustangs had patience at the plate, tallying six walks for the game. Stonebraker and Bennett led the team with two walks each. Fountain Central Varsity Mustangs stole four bases in the game.
