Knights Clamp Down Late to Extend Win Streak

ROSSVILLE, Ind. – The Central Catholic freshmen extended their winning streak to four games with a 41-38 road victory over Rossville Monday night. The Knights entered the Hornets’ Nest averaging 60 points over their last two games and had knocked down nine three-pointers in each of those contests. Monday night told a different story. Central Catholic struggled to find the range from long distance and, even more uncharacteristically, missed several layups around the basket. Despite their offensive woes, the Knights never let up defensively. Central Catholic pressured the ball, jumped passing lanes, and dictated the pace throughout the night. A second-half lineup of Landon Brand, Alex Gonzales, Tyler Schmidt, Joshua Galarza, and Owen Clute smothered the Hornets’ shooters and helped the Knights rally from a 21-15 halftime deficit. Easton Larrabee also provided solid minutes off the bench. Brand led the offensive charge with a relentless attack on the basket, finishing with 20 points. Gonzales was the only other Knight in double figures, scoring 10. With the win, Central Catholic improves to 6-2 on the season. The Knights return to action Wednesday when Purdue Polytechnic visits McHale Gymnasium for a 6:00 PM tipoff.
