The Lady Knights traveled to Northwestern High School to take on the Northwestern Tigers in the first round of sectionals in Varsity soccer action. From the opening kick the lady Knights kept pressure on the defense of Northwestern. 13 minutes into the game Caroline Lutz sent a great shot past the outstretched arms of the goalkeeper for our first goal of the game. 8 minutes later a Northwestern player was called for a handball in the box. Karsyn Cherry stepped up and calmly drove the ball into the back of the net to give the knights a 2 to nothing lead. The Knights worked very hard to maintain possession of the ball which resulted in very few scoring opportunities for Northwestern.
The 2nd half saw the Knights work the ball around the field with nice passing from everyone. With 14 minutes to go in the game, Madison Love played a ball to Lauren Hack in front of the goal. Lauren was able to redirect the ball just enough to slip it past the keeper for the Knights 3rd goal. 1minute later, Caroline Lutz found herself with the ball just inside the box. Caroline stepped hard into a shot that the keeper had no chance of stopping to give the Knights a 4-0 lead.
Although the offense gets the glory, the defensive play of the Knights was outstanding. Everytime we gave up possession, we immediately put pressure on Northwestern to win the ball back. The Knights limited Northwestern to 2 shots on goal for the entire game. Great game Ladies.
