The CC 8th Grade Boys Basketball A team took on Tecumseh on Saturday for the City Tournament Championship. In typical fashion (against Tecumseh) – it was a fast paced game throughout with both teams having their runs. In the 1st quarter, CC held the upper hand leading 15-10 at the quarter break (in part) thanks to a half court buzzer beating three pointer by Keaton Brooks. The 2nd quarter was a different story – as Tecumseh could not miss as they put up 21 points to take a 31-27 halftime lead. At halftime, we talked about defense & toughness – and apparently they took it to heart as the 2nd half was all CC. The Knights held the Bronchos to just 11 points – while scoring 28 of their own on their way to a 55-42 victory and the City Tournament Championship. Albert Schwartz had his best game of the season scoring 27 points to go along with 12 rebounds. Alex Hardebeck (10 points) and Keaton Brooks (8 points) also played well – and Brinn Robbins and Nick Page contributed with 4 points each – with Page adding 6 assists. The win capped off an excellent season for the 8th Grade Knights – finishing 16-2 overall (9-2 WCJC) – including a 12 game win streak at one point. The B team also played for the tourney championship against Tecumseh – and if it wasn’t for an extremely poor shooting performance in the first half it may have been a different outcome. The Knights scored just 2 points in the half to fall behind 20-2. However, the 2nd half – CC played well outscoring the Bronchos 20-15. It wasn’t quite enough as Tecumseh took the B team championship game by a score of 35-22. Despite the loss, John Rafacz led CC with 9 points and 8 rebounds followed by both Alex Meyer and Ryan Elsner who added 5 points apiece. The B team finishes the season at 5-8 overall. Great kids, great season – wish them all the best in high school:) Also, thank you to all the parents who helped at the games and for your support of the players and coaches. Special thanks to Corey Boutelle & Brian Robbins for doing the book / clock nearly every game – I appreciate it, Go Knights!
