The Class A 2nd ranked Lafayette Central Catholic Lady Knights were hoping to keep their 4-year sectional championship streak alive, but they knew that to make it 5 in a row that they would have to win over a solid Lafayette Faith Christian squad. FC entered the game with a record of 12 wins, 3 losses, 1 tie, and ranked 15th in 1A. As soon as the game started FC was able to send the ball down to CC’s defensive end of the field and they were able to keep it there for the first few minutes of the game. It appeared that the game may be a back and forth type of game. But once CC was able to get control of the ball, CC worked the ball up the field and kept it on FC’s defensive half for the majority of the game. Twelve minutes into the game Senior Captain Caroline Lutz played a nice pass to Junior Karsyn Cherry who sent a hard shot into the goal to break the scoreless tie. Six minutes later the same duo combined for another score to give CC a 2-0 lead. CC kept the pressure on FC by keeping the ball on FC’s end of the field and continuing to take shots. At the 33-minute mark, Caroline recorded her 3rd assist of the game when she played a great through-ball to her sister, Freshman McKenna Lutz. McKenna outran the opposing players to the ball and calmly sent the ball past the keeper for CC’s 3rd goal of the game. McKenna returned the favor to Caroline five minutes later and Caroline, in a similar fashion, took the ball toward the FC keeper and calmly sent the ball past the keeper to make the score 4-0. With under a minute to go in the 1st-half, Freshman Lizzie Cochran won the ball in the middle of the field. Lizzie dribbled the ball down the left sideline, got around a couple of FC defenders, and took a shot from near the lefthand endline. The ball crossed in front of the goal where fellow Freshman Emily Milks tapped the ball into the goal with 20 seconds to go in the half giving CC a 5-0 halftime lead. The 2nd half was much of the same. CC had 6 shots in the first 8 minutes of the 2nd half. Sophomore Lilian Tribble made a nice pass to wide-open Senior Captain Hailey Fallen who then sent the ball blazing past the keeper from about 30 yards out 13 minutes into the 2nd half. Three minutes later Lilian then closed out the scoring for CC when she took a pass from Karsyn and hit a line-drive that the keeper had no chance of getting to. As potent as we were offensively, the CC defense was just as strong. CC did not allow a single shot on goal for the entire game. The backline of Senior Captain Mayah Love, Juniors Madisyn Shultz and Aubrey Weeks, and Sophomore Olivia Hack played a tremendous game. CC dominated time of possession – 45 minutes to 30 minutes and had 42 pass strings compared to 4 for FC. Central Catholic will face-off against FW Blackhawk next Saturday at 10:00 am at Northwestern High School. Come out and cheer on the Lady Knights!
