Game Recap

The CC Knights 8th Grade A team traveled to Monticello to take on Twin Lakes (Roosevelt) on Monday night. In an extremely competitive game from the beginning – it was the Indians who started strong by jumping out to a 12-7 lead after one quarter. 13 first half turnovers didn’t help CC – but they stayed within striking distance trailing by just 8 at halftime 27-19. In the 3rd quarter it was all CC – as their half court trap caused numerous Twin Lakes turnovers and poor shots – as they outscored the Indians 16-3 to take a 35-30 lead. In the 4th quarter – it was Twins Lakes turn for a run as they got hot scoring the first 8 points of the quarter to take a 3 point lead. Cres Rodriguez tied it with a 3 pointer of his own and Donovan Bruce put the Knights back up by 2 with a driving lay-up with just over two minutes to go. The Indians answered with 2 more 3 pointers – but a Justin Brady basket with 10 seconds left cut it back down to 50-48. CC fouled with 6 seconds left and Twins Lakes missed the free throw. Clark Barrett rebounded the ball and drove it down for a 3 pointer – but his shot rimmed off as the horn sounded with the Indians getting the 50 -48 win. Justin Brady led the Knights in scoring with 17 – while grabbing 11 rebounds. Clark Barrett added 12 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists – and Donovan Bruce finished with 8 points. In the B Team game – it was all Twin Lakes as they jumped out to a 18-4 1st quarter lead and never really looked back. 34 CC turnovers ultimately did the Knights in – as Twin Lakes went on to a 58-18 victory. Crew Blumling led CC in scoring with 5 points – and Ty Buche and Carter Johnson added 4 points apiece. CC’s next game will be after the Thanksgiving break at Rossville.

Game Recap

The 8th Grade Boys Basketball A Team took on Wea Ridge Thursday night in WCJC league action. Maybe it was their full court pressure defense or possibly the friendly home rims – but CC came out on fire – out scoring the Huskies 18-2 in the first quarter. The game became closer throughout as Wea Ridge kept chipping away at the lead – getting it as close as 8 early in the 4th quarter. A Donovan Bruce 3 pointer and some key free throws down the stretch put the game out of reach – as the Knights went on to a 49-38 win. Justin Brady led CC in scoring with 13 points – followed by Keagan O’Connor who added 12 points, 10 rebounds and 5 steals – and Clark Barrett who finished with 10 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists. The CC A Team goes to 3-1 on the season. In the B Team game that followed – it was a different story as the Knights could not buy a basket. The Huskies held CC scoreless in the first half and took an 18-0 lead at halftime. In the 2nd half, CC played better – but it wasn’t enough as Wea Ridge went on to a 37-7 victory. Alex Denney played well for the Knights scoring 2 points and grabbing 7 rebounds – and Chris Gallo finished with a basket and 4 rebounds. The B Team drops to 1-3 on the season. Both teams travel to Twins Lakes for another WCJC conference game on Monday night.

Game Recap

The CC 8th grade boys A team traveled to Battleground on Tuesday for a battle with the Tomahawks. For the second time in three games the Knights struggled with their shooting – scoring just 8 first half points to trail 17-8 at the half. Clark Barrett scored the first basket of the 3rd quarter to cut the lead down to 7 – but from there Battleground outscored CC 10-2 the rest of the quarter to lead 27-12 at the end of the 3rd. It wasn’t until the 4th quarter when the Knights finally started to hit some shots – including two 3 pointers by Cres Rodriguez and another by Billy Owens. The 15 point CC 4th quarter helped – but it was not enough as they fell to the Tomahawks by a score of 38-27. Clark Barrett led the Knights with 10 points and 7 rebounds – and Cres Rodriguez added 8 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. The Knights drop to 2-1 on the season. In the second game of the night the B team played well in the 1st quarter trailing by just two at 10-8. From there however, Battleground took control and never looked back outscoring CC 29-5 the rest of the way to gain a rather easy win by the score of 41-13. Owen Adler played well for the B team scoring 4 points and grabbing 5 rebounds – and Andrew Kline added a basket to go along with 5 steals. The B team drops to 1-2 on the season. Both teams are in action again this Thursday night at home against Wea Ridge.
