The Knights raced brilliantly at the Indiana Middle School Cross Country Championships, in Carmel IN on 5 October 2019. Our harriers competed in the small schools division, comprised of 40+ schools and over 300 runners in the boys and girls varsity races respectively. Superb performances today, as 9 of the 16 Knights that raced today set new PRs! Terrific capstone to the season.
In the boys race, the Knights held their own against runners from state-wide and placed 13th of 43 teams! Veterans Kipp Pickerill and Andrew Friel led the way for the Knights. Kipp and Andrew turned in powerful performances, running nearly stride for stride and crushing their way to new PRs of 11 min and 11:01 respectively! John Rafacz was in close pursuit, finishing 3rd for the Knights in 11:32. Gavin Boutelle ran the race of his career and finished 4th for the Knights, setting a new PR of 12:31 in the process! Team captain Max Siemers pushed the pace, finishing within striking distance of his PR, posting 12:47. He was the 5th Knight across the line, helping the team secure the 13th place finish at State. The balance of the Knights ran very well, notably three PR runs. Veteran Ryan Elsner equaled his career PR with a 12:49 performance. Angel Gomez and Benjamin Zamora turned in their best races of the year, with PR runs of 12:55 and 14:12 respectively.
In the girls race, the Knights had insufficient numbers to score as a team but that didn’t stop them from excellent performances! Veteran harrier Emily Milks ran a super race, leading the Knights across the line with a season best of 12:59. Team captain Shannon Dineen was in close pursuit as she crushed her old career PR, set at 2018 State, down to 13:13! Veteran Osiris Macias, the 3rd Knight across the line, pushed the pace and finished in 14:23. Sixth grader Lia Penn, a rookie no more, ran the race of her career and turned in a new PR of 14:30!
So ends an excellent season. I love this sport and I love this team. They brought nothing less than their best effort, every time. True harriers!!
