The Knights engaged in very wet, muddy conditions and against substantial competition at the Culver Invitational on 28 September 2019. Our harriers competed in all three races held at the middle school level on the Culver Military Academy campus . Represented were 50 schools, 595 boys and 514 girls from across the region.
In the boys varsity race (per team limit of 10 runners), the Knights raced well in the mud and placed 15th of 35 teams. Kipp Pickerill lead the Knights with a strong 31st place finish, in a field of 314 runners. John Rafacz, Andrew Friel, Gavin Boutelle and Max Siemers turned in great runs and helped to deliver the team finish. Five of our Knights competed in the boys reserve race. Cayden Meyers powered through the mud and water, leading the Knights across the line.
In the girls varsity race, the Knights had insufficient numbers to score as a team, yet raced well in a field of 290 runners. Veterans Emily Milks and Shannon Dineen led the Knights across the line. For such adverse course conditions, both were less than 60 seconds off of PR performances! Lia Penn and Eleanor Carpenter ran strong and rounded out the performances for the Knights.
It was a muddy, wet, slippery adventure. They raced well, had fun. Good show harriers!
