Coed Junior High Cross Country · JH Cross Country Races at Central Catholic Invitational


The Junior High Cross Country team raced well at the Central Catholic Invitational on 19 Sep 2019. Substantial competition, and a hot day on our home course, as 17 schools, 327 boys and 219 girls, from across the region participated.

In the boys race the Knights faced a field of strong runners, ran well and posted a 5th place team finish, of 16 teams. Kipp Pickerill executed another strong performance, placing in the top 20 (9th) and leading the Knights across the line. John Rafacz, Andrew Friel, Gavin Boutelle and Josue Zamora continued to deliver, all running strong performances and helping deliver the 5th place team position. Team Score: 155 points, 5th place (9-Pickerill, 21-Rafacz, 25-Friel, 46-Boutelle, 54-Zamora). The Knights ran very well in their second hot race of the season! On average, our runners were 44 seconds faster on our home course than they were at our first hot race of the season (Klondike Invitational). That said, 4 Knights posted new career PRs. Anthony Monrraga went sub 13 min, posting a 12:54 and a PR by 8 seconds. Veteran Josue Zamora had a breakthrough race, likewise going sub 13 min and crossing the line with a new PR of 12:49. Angel Gomez continued to deliver, going sub 14 min and posting a new PR of 13:35. Aiden Meyer ran well on home turf, posting a 17:25 PR.

In the girls race, the Knights likewise faced hot conditions and a tough race field. The Knights posted a 12th place team finish, of 16 teams. Emily Milks ran well on the home course, leading the Knights across the line with a 26th place finish. Shannon Dineen was second across the line for the Knights, posting a season PR and 30th place. Lia Penn, Osiris Macias and Eleanor Carpenter turned in their best hot weather racing of the season, helping the Knights team score. Team Score: 296 points, 12th place (26-Milks, 30-Dineen, 58-Penn, 82-Maciaas, 100-Carpenter). The girls ran very well in their second hot race of the season! On average, our runners were 28 seconds faster on our home course than they were at our first hot race of the season (Klondike Invitational).
