Central Catholic sent 3 wrestlers to the always tough East Chicago Semi-State on Saturday, February 9th.
106 Dominic Skees started out against Russi of Lake Station Edison and dominated the match, winning by Tech Fall 15-0. Second Round Dom faced Tom of Wawasee getting a fast Takedown and three Near Fall in the first period and controlling the rest of the match to punch his ticket to State. In the Semis Dominic faced #6 ranked Hall of Merrillville, losing by Tech Fall. Dom then finished his day placing 4th in Semi-State losing a Major Decision 8-0 to #5 ranked Roberson of Crown Point.
Dominic Skees becomes the first Central Catholic wrestler to earn a State bid since Paul Sullivan (1985) and will wrestle on Friday, February 15th at 6:00pm at Bankers Life Field House.
132 Isaac Switzer avenged an early season loss to #6 ranked Ruiz of New Prairie winning by Decision 8-5. Isaac then faced #3 ranked Hegedus of Portage losing a tough match by Decision 8-3. Isaac finished his Junior season with a 34-14 record and is a Semi-State Quarterfinalist, Regional Runner-Up, Sectional Champion, took 3rd Place at Hoosier Conference, and was a Champion at the Covington Invite, North Putnam Invite, and West Vigo Invite.
145 Daktoa Skees lost to #8 ranked Stuckman of Wawasee by a 10-2 Major Decision. Dakota ended his Junior season with a 36-10 record, is a 2-time Semi-State Qualifier, finished 3rd at Regionals, was Sectional Runner-Up, took 3rd at Hoosier Conference, and was a Champion at the Covington and North Putnam Invites.
