The Central Catholic varsity wrestlers took part in an unusual Hoosier Conference Tourney rescheduled due to snowstorms. The tourney took place on Friday, January 18th at Western HS, starting at 5:00pm and ending around 11:00pm.
The Knights finished in 6th place overall in team scores beating Lewis Cass, Tipton, Twin Lakes, and Benton Central.
8 of the 9 varsity wrestlers who participated in the tourney placed.
Dominic Skees the #1 seeded wrestler at 106 earned his first Conference Championship with a exciting finals match against #2 seeded Anthony Martin of Western, winning by a 2-1 Decision. Dominic advanced to the finals with a 30 second pin fall over Kaine Fowler of Lewis Cass and 14-4 Major Decision over Eli McGuire of Tipton. Dominic finished the day with three wins and improved his record to 34-3.
#3 seeded Senior Felipe Viera finished as a runner up at 160 advancing through the tourney with a pin fall over Western and upset over #2 seed Northwestern. Felipe lost to Bobby Williams of Hamilton Heights in the championship round.
132 Isaac Switzer captured 3rd place with a fantastic move to win 3-2 with 10 seconds left in the match defeating Cade Cox of Lewis Cass.
#1 seeded 145 Dakota Skees suffered an early round upset but wrestled back and earned 3rd place with a 7-4 Decision over #2 seed Bodey Henry of Northwestern.
Freshman 126 Andrew Kline finished in 4th place advancing with victories over wrestlers from Lewis Cass and Hamilton Heights.
138 Christopher Antonio finished in 5th place with wins over wrestlers from Northwestern and Hamilton Heights.
170 Peter Brown and 285 Nathan Hardenburg both finished in 6th place.
182 Alex Denney lost a tough first round match against a Hamilton Heights wrestler.
