It was great to see the Knights Jr. high cross country team cap off the season at the Indiana Middle School Championships held in Carmel on September 29. The Knights once again demonstrated great running, as our 15 runners set 4 new individual PRs (personal records), 3 ties of standing PRs and on average the team was 14 seconds off of their PRs!
In the girls race the Knights ran in the ‘Small Schools – Girls Varsity’ category, comprised of 302 runners. Congratulations to Chloe Poindexter, who led the Knights with a 6th place overall finish and a new PR of 11:21! Chloe’s earned All-State distinction with her top 25 performance. Shannon Dineen was the second Lady Knight across the finish line, and posted a new PR of 13:35! Elizabeth Cochran ran strong, as she has all year, posting a 14:09, only 14 seconds off PR! Congratulations to Philomena Gillen, with a big year ending PR of 15:49, improving her time by 24 seconds. The Lady Knights had insufficient numbers to score as a team. However, it was super running by the girls in their last race of the season!
In the boys race, some of the Knights competed in the ‘Small Schools – Boys JV’ category, comprised of 179 runners. As a team, the Knights placed 13th, with a score of 383. Noah Martin led the Knights across the line, and tied his PR time of 13:07! Josue Zamora was the second Knight to finish, posting a 13:08 and narrowly missing his PR by 2 seconds! Ryan Elsner had a strong, year ending run and tied his PR of 13:14. Jack Reisman finished the year, racing to a 16:24, only 12 seconds off of PR. Great year end running by three-year veteran Cullen Raderstorf, who set a PR on 27 September, and tied that PR performance at the Championships, posting a 16:32, again! Once again, great running by the Knights!
The balance of our boys raced in the ‘Small Schools – Boys Varsity’ category, comprised of 309 runners. As a team, the Knights placed 30th, with a score of 716. Rob Burton, a three-year veteran and team captain, led the Knights across the line, posting 11:28, only 8 seconds off of PR! Rob entered the 2018 season looking to break his then PR of 12:03. He had an extraordinary season, smashing the 12 minute mark and posting race times well under 12 minutes for most of the season. Congratulations to Andrew Friel, the second Knight across the line who also set a significant PR, breaking the 12 minute mark with a time of 11:51, a 16 second improvement! Kipp Pickerill, third Knight across the line, posted a 12:03. Gavin Boutelle had a strong performance, and posted a 12:43, only 7 seconds off of PR.
