It was exciting to see our Knights Jr. High cross country team showcase excellent racing on our home turf, as they competed in the Central Catholic Invitational on Thursday, September 13. It was a very large event, as the boys race consisted of 17 schools and 323 runners. The girls race consisted of 16 schools and 209 runners. This year we unveiled a unique course that covered the entire CC campus. The runners started from our open field on the north side of the school property, ran into Bishop Woods, around the soccer practice fields, then entered the track for the finale in front of the grandstand.
We’re extremely pleased with the Knights performances. Nearly all of their race times are PR’s (personal records), when compared to our hot-weather races earlier this season (8/28, 9/4 and 9/11).
In the girls race, the Knights placed 8th of 16 teams, with a score of 197. Chloe Poindexter led the Knights, winning the race with a time of 11:43! Chloe continues to dominate, as she has been the individual winner in all five of our races for the season. Emily Milks joined Chloe in the top 10, placing 8th with a time of 13:00. Shannon Dineen, Elizabeth Cochran and Osiris Macias ran strong and rounded out the top 5 scorers for the Knights. Impressive performances by all of our girls!
In the boys race, the Knights placed 8th of 17 teams, with a score of 206. A near tie with 7th place! Rob Burton led the Knights, placing 13th with a new PR time of 11:20! John Rafacz was the second Knight to cross the line, posting a 12:09; one second off his PR! Andrew Friel, Max Siemers and Gavin Boutelle turned in great performances and rounded out the top 5 scorers for the Knights. Additional noteworthy performances were by Noah Martin and Jacob Buche, who posted new PRs of 13:07 and 13:52 respectively. Excellent running by all of our boys!
