Game Recap

Lafayette Central Catholic (23-1) won a thrilling 3-2 ballgame in 9 innings over Western in the semi-finals of the Hoosier Conference Tournament. Jackson Anthrop outlasted Western’s Dalton Leighty on the mound as both pitchers went the distance. It looked like Ben Metzinger’s 3rd inning solo home run would hold up but the Panthers rallied with a game tying single with two outs in the top of the 7th inning. The Panthers scored one run in the top of the 9th and threatened to score more before Metzinger threw out a Panther trying to score on a flyball to right to minimize the damage to one run.
Coy Cronk led off the bottom of the 9th with a single to right. Ben Metzinger drew a one out walk setting the stage for Tyler Powers to be the hero with an RBI single to right scoring courtesy runner Jack Hudson. Metzinger scored the game winning run on the play after the right fielder’s throw got away at home plate.
The Knights will take on Lewis Cass on Saturday at 5:30pm in Kokomo’s Highland Park for the Hoosier Conference Championship.
