Another great weekend or the Lady Knights Volleyball team, as they participated in the Blue River Valley 1A Showdown in Mount Summit, Indiana. The Knights squared of against 1A #3 Springs Valley(home of Larry Bird) in their first match of pool play. The girls came out sluggish in this match, but were mentally tough enough to win the match 2-1(23-25,25-16,15-11). Volleyball isn’t always pretty and the Knights figured out away to win. Marquette Catholic was up next in pool play for the Knights. Things began to shape up for the team, but the execution was still lacking during this set. As the match wore on the Knights started to put things together wining in straight sets 2-0(25-18,25-13). After a quick break the Knights now had to square off against a talented Cowan team in their last match of pool play. What ever the girls had to snack on or drink before this match worked because they came out locked in and ready to go. The Knights defeated Cowan 2-0(25-16,25-15, to advance to the championship match versus an extremely talented 2A #2 Wes-Del High School. Over the years this has been a highly contested match up between two very proud volleyball programs. The Lady Knights came out in this match firing on all cylinders, wanting to prove to everyone that they are a legit state contender. With an aggressive blocking scheme and nailed down passing the Knights dominated set one 25-11. Set number two the Wes-Del Warriors came right back firing, jumping out to a 7-0 lead. After settling down and getting back to playing aggressive and disciplined volleyball the Knights tied the set up at 18-18. At this point the match was back and forth point for point. The Knights went up 21-18 before giving up 3 straight points tying the match up at 21. After a lot of intense rally’s the Knights bucked down and won set number 3 26-24 to with the championship match. After today’s victory’s the Knights move to a 23-0 season record, with still only dropping 6 sets all season long.
