Runners from Central Catholic competed at the Carroll Invitational Middle School cross country meet last Monday at Carroll Jr./Sr. High School, located just east of Flora, IN. Carroll’s challenging 3K course included a hill climb at the 400/2600 meter marks, a traverse of the school parking lot, then a tight turn at 1600 meters.
In the Boys’ team race, Central Catholic’s David Ortman was in a group just off the two race leaders from Rossville and Caston at 1500 meters. At the finish, Ortman out kicked a challenger from Rossville to secure an 8th place finish and a time of 11:51. Teammate Austin Chyall finished in 32nd place with a time of 12:59. Kevin Todd (13:27), Seaton Garrett (13:48), Mark Cramer (14:17), Sebastian Lux (14:43), and Luke Cooley (15:47) rounded out the boys team. The Knights scored 177 points and took 5th place out of 12 teams. The Knights trailed Western, Winamac, Caston, and meet winner Rossville.
Alicia Orr (16:39) and Mia Vinarcik (17:49) represented Central Catholic in the Girls’ Race. The Rossville girls took first place decisively with 29 points.
In the open race, Paul Schwartz and Andrew Schafer both set PR times of 15:23 and 18:58, respectively.
The Knights will host Clinton Prairie, Clinton Central, Sheridan, Klondike and Battleground on Thursday October 2.
