The Knights were at Jeff High School this Saturday participating in a 12 team Varsity Invitational. The Knights opened play vs Alexandria-Monroe and fell in a tough 3 set battle (19-25, 25-19, 9-15). We came out a little sluggish and just couldn’t quite put everything together offensively and defensively.
We took to the court right away ready to right the ship vs. a physical Bloomington North squad. The girls responded well and got into an early rhythm, winning the match in 2 straight sets (25-12, 25-22).
After about an almost two hour break, we took to the floor vs. a perennial 4A power, Penn. Penn was very well disciplined and had a couple kids who just jumped out of the gym and also had cannons attached to their shoulders. Our kids didn’t back down and took the fight right to them, this was probably our best defensive match of the year. We fell short losing in 2 sets (22-25, 23-25). We were in the lead back and forth, but we just couldn’t quite finish at the end.
The last match of the day put the Knights up against the Western Panthers. After a tough loss to Penn the girls wanted to come out and release a little bit of frustration in dropping a winnable match. They did just that winning convincingly in 2 sets(25-10,25-9). This was a great way to finish off the weekend.
We are off until Thursday when we travel down to Western Boone for a tough match up.
