Central Catholic hosted 337 middle school runners from 18 schools at our annual CC Invite on Thursday. The flat 3K course involved a start/finish on the football practice fields and a 1.5K loop through Bishop’s Woods. Conditions at race time were sunny and warm, and the flat course provided a fast field.
For the girls’ race Roosevelt standout Maggie Gutwein had a commanding lead at the halfway mark and increased it to finish with at course record time of 11:06. Roemer Lotti from West Lafayette finished second at 11:46 followed by her teammate Ellie Tate at 12:04. Central Catholic runners Emma Bullock finished in 16th place at 13:14, Alicia Orr finished at 16:10 and Mia Vinarcik set a PR with a finish time of 16:25. The West Lafayette girls took first place with 22 points, Roosevelt was second with 79 points, and Benton Central finished third with 125 points.
The boys’ race was closely contested between William White from Central Catholic, Caleb Beimfohr from East Tipp, and Carter Delworth from West Lafayette. All three were together at the 1500-meter mark with White leading. At the last 800 meters White pulled away and held the lead to the finish line, setting a PR of 10:29 and a course record. Beimfohr finished second (10:42) and Delworth was third (10:50).
For the Knights, David Ortman finished 8th in PR time of 11:23. Austin Chyall (12:31) Seaton Garrett (13:26), Luke Cooley (15:06), Paul Schwartz (15:37), and Andrew Schafer (19:42) all set PRs.
The West Lafayette boys took first place with 48 points, East Tipp was second with 117 points, and Klondike finished third with 129 points. Central Catholic finished in 4th place with 163 points.
The Central Catholic middle school team will race at the Carroll Invitational in Flora, IN this Monday.
