Girls Junior Varsity Soccer, Girls Varsity Soccer · Lady Knights tame host Tigers 4-3 to advance to Championship match

The opening tournament game Saturday morning had the Lady Knights vs. the host Tigers at the Lebanon Invitational. Early possession was with CC but Lebanon would get on the board with their first opportunity. In the 5th minute, Maher attacked the wing and persistence would get her by the defender for a close finish against Ulrey for 1-0 lead. CC would answer in the 18th minute when Pannell would find Martin open across the goal to tie the game. A foul from Lebanon allowed a long ball from Bobillo to find a streaking Martin in stride for another easy finish only a minute later and the Knights had their first lead. In the 31st minute, a defensive miscue from the Knights would allow speed from the Tiger’s Witt to pounce in the box for another 1 vs.1 vs. Ulrey. She would finish to knot the game at 2 apiece. CC kept up offensive pressure and three minutes later Pannell would shoot high and far post where Martin would crash to get a hat trick for the half, with 3-2 lead they would take to halftime. The Tigers kept 4 of 5 shots on goal with Ulrey earning 2 saves while Knights had 9 of 12 shots on frame with Huse earning 6 saves for Lebanon. Kiracofe would lead CC defense with 5 stops.

Second half had both teams miss opportunities in front of the net. In the 65th minute, it would be Bobillo in transition from the middle to create a chance for the Knights. She attacked the wing and then took on her defender endline and sent a hard shot from her tight angle. Huse would save at the near post but deflection came back to Bobillo who then chipped a cross, this time to Weeks who was crashing towards goal, chesting the ball to give CC a two goal cushion. It would be an important goal as Knights struggled with late possession and gave Tigers many opportunities to put pressure on Ulrey. With 3 minutes remaining, Lebanon corner kick dropped near post and several times, defenders had weak clearances. Fourth deflection popped out to Leavitt at the top of the box and she shot top corner to get her team back within one. Tigers couldn’t finish any late chances to force shootout and CC would move on to the Championship with 4-3 win. Knights finished with 14 of 19 on goal, Huse with 10 saves, while Tigers ended with 8 of 12 on goal. Ulrey earned 4 saves with Hutzel also saving a hard shot as defender near post. Bobillo had 7 stops in second half to support her game winning assist and secure the victory, with Kiracofe finished with team best 10 for the game. Each team would have 4 corners and Tigers would have 4 fouls to Lady Knights 3. CC would face Large School TopTen Center Grove’s JV next, a late addition to Invitational and 5-1 victor over Small School #4 Hamilton Heights in the other opening match.
