At the home opener, last night at LaRocca Field, CC girls soccer hosted conference foe Twin Lakes. Freshman Cruz would start in goal for the Indians coming off 13-0 loss to Harrison on Saturday when Raiders scored on 50% of their shots. Lady Knights would pressure early. Senior captain Maggie Bobillo played a great through ball to fellow captain Allison Martin who dribbled into the box and finished less than a minute into the game. Emma Gerrety would follow in the fourth minute, leading Martin again behind her defender and clinical finish for 2-0 lead. A deflection would drop to the feet of captain Lauren Pannell only a minute later and her left foot shot eluded Cruz to up the lead to 3. It would be the 14th minute before Lady Knights scored again, Pannell released down sideline and sent cross that Julie Blichmann would chase down and turn on to strike her first goal of the season. Gerrety challenged into the box after CC regained possession but her shot found the crossbar and deflected down. Pannell was waiting and placed a low finish to add to her scoring. In the 17th minute, Pannell would attack L side and after beating her defender, would strike a hard shot that eluded a diving Cruz to get her hat trick. Cruz would leave the game with injury and not return. Indians turned to field players to fill the goalie void and McGregor stepped in for her team. Cruz would register 2 saves facing 8 shots on goal in the first 17 minutes. Julie Blichmann would start the next goal inside the box but laid it wide for Martin. A low hard cross went across the goal mouth to meet Pannell far post for nice teamwork. A minute later, Gerrety would again attack right sided into the box and kept it low for her first goal of the game. Only a minute later it would become 9-0 in the 23rd minute as Pannell would return favor to Martin, just changing sides and assists to get Martin’s hat trick. Only one captain remained off the stat sheet and she would make sure it happened in the first half. With 2 minutes remaining, Martin attacked endline and dropped a pass to captain Dana Blichmann. She hit a knuckler near post and it spun out of the goalie’s grasp to sneak inside the post. CC would enter halftime up 10-0. Lady Knights had 14 of 26 shots on goal, with McGregor credited with 2 saves. Defense would be led by 5 stops from Hutzel keeping Indians at only one shot and Ulrey would not have to register a save.
Twin Lakes tried several different defenders and substitutes trying to stop CC in the second half. Gerrety would take advantage, making solo runs from midfield to dribble inside and finish with four goals in the 42nd, 45th, 71st and 73rd minutes. An assisted goal in the 69th minute would be another show of teamwork as Pannell played a cross with her head, dropping to the feet of Gerrety who found Preston all alone at the PK spot. She took a touch and played final pass into the goal for her first varsity goal. Pannell would get a great ball from Bobillo on a run and have to finish the goal in the 74th minute. Bobillo would close out the scoring in the 78th minute as she was released to the right by Gerrety. Despite tough angle, she played a far post ball that kissed off the post for a closing goal from a typically defensive minded leader. Siemers was called on to make a save in the 60th minute and Twin Lakes ended the night with 1 of 3 shots on goal. McGregor would earn 7 saves in the 2nd half, several with her feet, totaling 9 during her 63 minutes of team support of her Indians. Kiracofe faced more pressure in 2nd half and registered 7 defensive stops to finish with game high 8 in total. CC was more efficient in 2nd half with 13 of 16 shots on goal. CC led in corners 5 to 1 and fouls 5 to 4. Game winner would go to Martin with winning assist from Bobillo. Gerrety would finish with 5 goals and 4 assists, Pannell with 5 goals and 3 assists, Martin with 3 goals and 2 assists and Bobillo with a goal and 2 assists. CC players would earn 12 assists on their 17 goals.
