North Montgomery High School
The Knights visited North Montgomery for their season opener on a hot, humid day. Central Catholic’s balanced attack was rewarded by goals from 5 different players, but they were unable to stop Chargers #25 (Slavens), who netted 4 goals on 4 shots and led North Montgomery to a 6-5 victory.
Slavens made a statement early by scoring the game’s first goal less than 10 minutes into the match. The Knights responded well and pressed the attack and were rewarded as Mick Krane finished off a cross from Ethan Harding. Slavens found the back of the net again mid-way through the first half by chipping over CC keeper Austin Gick. Again, the Knights quickly equalized through a beautiful strike at the top left of the penalty area from Ben Kuckkan. Chris Cardenas scored soon after off a pass from Mick Krane to push the Knights ahead 3-2. The game looked set to head to halftime at that score, but Osborne finished off a play in front of the net one minute from halftime to knot the score at 3-3.
The Knights charged out of halftime with purpose and got a goal almost immediately off of a shot from a tight angle by Nate Matson. This time it was the Chargers that answered within seconds from Wolf #14. The Knights had several good shots but were unable to find the net and Slavens scored his 3rd with 25 minutes to play. Sam Milazzo was released by a nice pass from Eric Hemkes and put his shot past the keeper to send the game to its 5th tie at 5-5 with 10 minutes to play. But Slavens had one more answer and muscled his way to a 4th goal, giving North Montgomery the win.
